LIPOSUCTION TO THE FACE
The important value of fat in the antiaging of the face has been known for decades. Today we have data that support: 1. the regenerative role of fat stem cells, 2. the safety of their use even in oncological patients and 3. their long-term effect and staying in the place they are placed.
Fat emerges as one of
the most important tools of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and
gives new dimensions to regenerative medicine.
WHAT CAN BE DONE?
Lipotransfer aims to improve the
contours of the face, especially in the areas that reveal age: jaw angle, chin,
cheekbones, temples. The reversal of aging, using the excess fat, is not only
achieved by filling the face with its own cells, but because the surrounding
tissues are regenerated, through stem cells. Before surgery, the empty
compartments are drawn on the face. After the liposuction is done and the fat
is processed, the fat is transferred to the compartments of the face.
WHO IS FACIAL LIPOSUCTION FOR?
All adults, regardless of
age, are candidates for face and neck liposuction. We usually recommend it as
the first line of treatment for patients who have lost enough fat from their
face and the facelift or fillers solution is expensive. Patients need to have
stabilized their weight and have no other serious health problems. This
operation is easily combined with operations in which small-scale liposuction
is performed: thighplasty, brachioplasty and abdominoplasty, while it is an
integral element of a facelift.
WHAT IS THE TYPE OF ANESTHESIA?
When lipotransfer is planned on a small scale, the patient can receive local
anesthesia in the office. Otherwise, the operation is performed under general
anesthesia or intoxication in an organized clinic. The duration of the surgery
is 1-2 hours. After the surgery, it is advisable to stay in the clinic for a
few hours.
WHAT WILL THE SCARS LOOK LIKE AFTER THE SURGERY?
The incisions made during the
surgery are very small. After a while they are not visible to the naked eye.
HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?
About 50% of the fat transferred survives. The
image stabilizes at 6 weeks and after this time the result is considered
permanent and will remain stable as long as patients do not increase or
decrease their body weight too much. The distribution of fat after lipotransfer
also takes place in the newly created fat depots.
WHAT ARE THE LIMITATIONS OF LIPOTRANSFER?
They refer to fat transfer in
the body
WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF LIPOSUCTION?
The doctor will assess your general condition and your history and, if he
decides that you are suitable for surgery, he will inform you about the
possible complications and what needs to be done to reduce the possibility of
their occurrence. You will also be asked to stop smoking and refrain from using
supplements that affect blood clotting. The anesthetist will then talk to you
about the type of anesthesia you will receive and the possible complications.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO BEFORE SURGERY?
Depending on your age, you
will be given instructions on the medications you may be taking and should be
stopped or replaced, as well as on the additional testing that needs to be done
based on your history. Your weight should remain stable.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SURGERY?
Immediately after the surgery
there is a mild swelling which gradually goes away in the first week. You stay
at the clinic for a few hours, but your time away from work must have been
calculated at 1 week. Abstaining from sports for 1 month is also recommended.
WHAT IS THE COST OF FAT
TRANSPORT?
The cost of liposuction is
calculated by adding the cost of the clinic where the patient is operated and
treated, the fee of the Plastic Surgeon and the Anesthesiologist.
